Mark Grainger was a standout multi-sport athlete for Savannah Christian School. His
talents earned him the coveted Ashley Dearing Award in 1977 (football, basketball,
baseball, and track). The running back was named Savannah’s back of the year in
1976 by the Savannah News-Press and the Quarterback Club. Grainger was also
named All-State in ’75 & ’76. As a shortstop, he was named All-State in baseball three
years in high school. Grainger was a standout wide receiver at Furman University,
leading the team in receptions as a junior and leading the team in kickoff return yardage
as a freshman.
